"From the first race of the year all the way up to NCAAs I saw much time drop tremendously. This time around, Burt got to the finals of an event on his own, capping off a tremendous outdoor season where he won the Big 12 outdoor title where he clocked a personal-best (wind-aided) time of 13.54.įollowing the meet, Burt reflected on a track season where he made significant improvements thanks to some technical changes made once he was able to focus on hurdling after spring practice was in the books. Having advanced to the semifinals as both a freshman and sophomore, Burt earned second-team All-American honors as a member of the Texas sprint relay team in 2016. Burt, making his first-ever appearance in the finals of the 110m hurdles, ran a 14.02 to finish in eighth place. Burt’s ability handle both has paid off in a big way and not just due to the team’s leader in receiving yards in 2015 (457 yards on 28 receptions with two touchdowns) enjoying a productive spring on the gridiron.īurt scored a point for Texas at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., helping the Longhorns to a 25th-place finish in the team standings. If John Burt could handle being able to run track while not missing any time on the practice field while Texas was going through spring ball, Tom Herman had no problem with the rising senior wide receiver pulling double duty as a two-sport athlete.
